Block A held a drama workshop on March 17, 2013, inviting senior dramatic expert Mr Sidney Lui to share his drama production experiences with residential college students. Mr Lui is currently Head of the Drama Education at Elegantia College, Artistic Director of the Kwun Tong Theatre and also an examiner for the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. Mr Lui has extensive experience in drama production and acting, and has also been a scriptwriter, producer and director for over 30 dramatic productions.

In this workshop, Mr Lui featured “We Understand Now (我們明白了)”, a recent play produced by Kwun Tong Theater; students viewed several of its scenes.

The play was produced in 2008 under the invitation of the Home Affairs Bureau and Kwun Tong District Council, after the Sichuan earthquake that year. It features a group of youths born in the 1980s and 1990s in mainland China and Hong Kong. Long doubted for their immaturity and irresponsibility, they show strong will-power, valuable courague and great self-esteem and resilience in enduring the earthquake’s aftermath.

Block A’s workshop series expects to continue inviting speakers to share their expertise in producing theatre, films, painting, music, and all other cultural outputs. We welcome guests who come not only to listen, but to interact with speakers with an exploratory spirit and in hands-on manner.
